Features

503 Beloit Avenue is a 4BD/3BA verdant oasis that has been uniquely upgraded to be wheelchair accessible, with elegant ramping winding through mature gardens and a mostly single-level layout, plus a private 1BD/1BA lower level. It is situated steps from Tilden Park and moments from El Cerrito BART.

As you approach the home from either its flagstone path or the ramping, gardens planted with fruit trees, wisteria, rhododendrons, and jasmine greet you; upon entering this 1,948 square foot home from its wraparound deck, you immediately take in the open layout of the common area. A spacious, light-filled living area features a wood-burning fireplace and floor-to-ceiling picture windows, while the dining area includes a large bay window with tile detail. In the spacious eat-in chef’s kitchen, ample granite countertops and cabinetry plus a gas range with hood make for an inviting space. Throughout the open area of the home, gleaming hardwood floors provide continuity.

Explore the hallway and you will find three bedrooms, including one fitted with shelves, wood paneling, and French doors leading to the deck, making for a welcoming home office space. An additional bedroom shares a hallway bath that with a shower over tub and vintage tile, while in the owner’s suite, the spacious bedroom features large windows overlooking the garden and is paired with a bath with level-in shower and built-in vanity.

Accessible by a staircase by the kitchen is the lower level of 503 Beloit, which has its own external access from a rear patio, a bright bedroom that overlooks the garden, and full bath with a shower over tub, making it an ideal private space for guests or attendants. The lower level is accented by terra cotta tile floors and also includes a laundry room with cabinets, counter space, and a utility sink.

503 Beloit includes an attached two-car garage that is accessible from the lower level, plus bonus storage space accessible from the garage.

Neighborhood

Kensington
Thanks to its proximity to the University of California, Berkeley campus, Kensington may boast the largest number of Nobel Prize winners of any community in the world. But one look at this neighborhood of large homes in the hilly streets above Berkeley, its commanding views of the Bay Area, and sunny terraced yards will explain why this community is one of the most sought after in the East Bay. Famed architect Bernard Maybeck had a home on Purdue Street. The homes he designed here at the turn of last century have become an informal blueprint for the signature home in Berkeley. These well-proportioned homes are designed for family life and dinner parties. Shingle siding, rustic construction, and bright expansive vistas are the hallmark of the homes in Kensington. Tilden Park provides the boundary to the east. Miles of biking and hiking trails, a miniature steam train, exhibition farm, merry go-round, and the naturally landscaped swimming hole at Lake Anza make Tilden a popular destination for families. Transportation via Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) is convenient. Heading on Colusa Avenue leads to the El Cerrito Plaza BART station and a short drive down Arlington Avenue takes you to North Berkeley BART and North Berkeley's Gourmet Ghetto neighborhood. There are two distinct shopping districts in Kensington.
